KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 – The government has announced that under Budget 2023, a unit dedicated to eradicating child pornography activities will be established.

This unit will fall under the Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) D11 unit, which is the Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division, and will work with other agencies to identify and locate perpetrators.

The establishment of the new unit is in line with PDRM’s efforts to more aggressively investigate sexual cases involving women and children.

The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will also establish a Child Development Department, which will fall under the Social Welfare Department, to provide children with more comprehensive support services.

“The unity government is always concerned with the safety of its citizens, especially women and children,” said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the budget presentation.

“However, the problems involving women and children are still at a worrisome stage right now.”

He added that the government will allocate RM8 million to strengthen the role of local social support centres as a place for early intervention for mental health and domestic violence issues.
