KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 6 – Standard Chartered Malaysia recently announced the rollout of enhanced global parental leave benefits.

Taking effect from September 1, 2023 onwards, following a global rollout, the bank will standardise the amount of parental leave it offers, providing parents the option of undertaking more equitable caregiving responsibilities for their children.

With the enhanced benefits, employees can access a minimum of 20 weeks of paid parental leave, irrespective of gender or how a child comes to permanently join an employee’s family.

The enhanced benefits have been designed to support working parents. This is part of the bank’s commitment to fostering an inclusive culture, where employees are supported in balancing their personal lives with building successful careers.

Standard Chartered was the first bank in Malaysia to introduce fully paid 20-week maternity leave back in 2017.

“Our people are core to our business, so we are constantly looking at how we can create a more inclusive workplace for them to achieve their full potential.

“Such benefits not only support each individual’s family planning choice — thereby improving their experience in the workplace — but also address changing societal roles surrounding shared childcare responsibilities,” said Muhammad Rawi Abdullah, head of human resources at Standard Chartered Malaysia.

Standard Chartered has received multiple recognitions for its diversity and inclusion agenda, which also includes a focus on being an employer of choice.
