KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 – Eighteen-year-old Kareeshini Priyadev is among the eight selected Asian participants taking part in the Project-Based Learning (PBL) workshop, the Asian Girls in Action Project 2023, organised by international non-governmental organisation (NGO) The Garden of Hope Foundation, based in Taiwan.

Kareeshini represents the Women’s Aid Organization (WAO), which is also a strategic partner of The Garden of Hope Foundation.

The WAO was established in 1983 to assist women and children who are victims of domestic violence in rebuilding their lives.

In addition to Kareeshini, the workshop was attended by seven other participants from Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, and Taiwan.

The Asian Girls in Action Project seeks to educate and unearth the talents and capabilities of the younger generation and build a more compassionate society. It also creates awareness about the rights of women, children, and teenagers.

Each participant is required to plan an innovative project aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the hope of creating a meaningful impact in their respective communities.

Kareeshini presented a project named ‘Nature Care Sanitary Pads’, emphasising menstrual awareness and the natural environment, a crucial knowledge area for the teenage demographic.

According to Yueh Hao Wang, the chief executive officer of The Garden of Hope Foundation, the Asian Girls in Action Project is an initiative that focuses on learning and close collaboration with NGOs across Asia to empower the rights of teenage girls and create a healthier environment for teenagers in the region.

The Asian Girls in Action Project is active in promoting programs that emphasise SDG 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, as well as SDG 4, Quality Education.

Based on its experience and success, The Garden of Hope Foundation has expanded to East Asia, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia, in collaboration with NGOs in these countries.

Established in 1988, The Garden of Hope Foundation aims to help and empower teenagers and women worldwide, preparing them to become leaders capable of transforming societal thinking, particularly addressing teenagers who are victims of sexual exploitation, human trafficking, and domestic violence.

It also aims to increase the participation of more Asian teenagers in the Asian Girls in Action Project for the coming year.
