Budget 2025: RM1 Billion For The Welfare Of The Elderly

Prime Minister announces tax reliefs that will be extended to cover elderly family members including grandparents.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced an increase in welfare allocation for the elderly to RM1 billion during his Budget 2025 speech today.

 “This is to provide cash assistance for elderly institutions and activity centres,” he said.

Tax reliefs on the cost of a full medical examination for parents will also be expanded to cover the cost of vaccinations. 

Anwar also announced that tax reliefs for expenditure on sports equipment and activities will be extended to parents, while tax reliefs for child care allowance will be extended to cover the care of the elderly, i.e. mothers, fathers, and grandparents.

Additionally, tax deductions for employers who pay child care allowances will also be extended to include care for the elderly, namely mothers, fathers, grandmothers, and grandfathers. 

Tax reliefs on medical treatment expenses will also include grandparents.
